Two nights ago I had just finished watching Resident Evil: Degeneration. After watching Clair and Leon kick some zombie a**, I decided to pop in my copy of Resident Evil: Outbreak. The Opening credits flashed on the screen like usual. I pressed the PS button like usual. Every thing was normal... every thing except the normal green light that indicates the system is on and working had now turned yellow. After two seconds or so, the yellow light turned into a red, flashing light.
I figured it was just the PS3's way of telling me "Give me a break! You just watched a two hour movie on me, and right before that you were playing rock band for like 20 hours!!!" so I tried one more time about half an hour later. The same thing happened.
The next morning I awoke at 2:30pm to find my mom yelling at my beloved system. my sister had jammed "Horten Hears a Who" (a rental from Block Buster that just so happens to be due today) Into the Ps3. After that evil yellow light had shown it's ugly face 10 more times, my mother proceded to attempt to pry the CD from the system with a pair of tweezers. After an hour of that my mom looked up how to take apart the PS3, and what that yellow light means.

As it turns out, the Yellow Light of Doom (or Death) is essentially the PS3's Red Ring of Death. It can mean one of 2 things; either your H-drive has been dislodged, or your system is as dead as those guys from Resident Evil. I don't know of any way to prevent this but I will try to find out how. Unlike the RRoD though, it is very rare and there are very few instances of it ever happening.

My mom called Sony and they should be sending her a form to fill out and send back to them. There is a good chance they will repair it for free!

After spending over an hour on the phone with Sony's tech support, I was told that there is nothing they can do, even though my warranty expired just one month ago. Yep. Thats why I'm going back to Nintendo. Even if the Wii has maybe only 5 good games, Nintendo is the only company that doesn't ship consoles out with known defects (Microsoft...). The worst the Wii has any way is the Whirring noise, but that can be treated with the same disk used to clean ps2's 90% of the time.

My Xbox only does this every so often though, maybe once every 2 weeks. I also agree that Nintendo is really the only reliable thing left.

After sending my ps3 to sony it finally was shipped back to me about 2 weeks ago. I didn't use it much when I first got it (I've been so busy lately I forgot that I even owned a ps3 lol) but about 3 days ago I started to play rock band again. Yesterday I had played for a solid 5 hours before I stopped. My sister begged my to put a movie on for her so I checked the system to see if it was over heating (it felt like an ice box) and then popped in the bluray disk into the system. The movie played just fine untill it got to the ending credits and it froze. I figured the disk was dirty and I thought nothing of it. This morning I went to play rock band (I had challenged my girlfriends dad to a guitar battle ) and entered the parental control code and started the game. The "Plastation 3" name flashed like usual, but then my tv went black and gave me the "no hdmi detected" (this happens to my tv when the ps3 is off or the hdmi cable is in wrong) and stayed that way until I restarted the system. After signing in I went to the game icon and I saw that the ps3 was no longer reading the disk. I took it out and put it back in several times and all I got was the loading icon in the corner. I layed it on its side and it started to read it again. I tried playing it again and I got the "no hdmi detected" error again. I tryed putting another BD in and it refused to read it. I put a dvd in and it worked perfectly. I put a ps2 game in and it worked fine. My ps3 has a broken BD drive. Just 2 weeks after I get this thing it breaks on me, WTF SONY?!?

Sony has yet again out done themselves. I may have forgotten to mention this but the ps3 that I got in the mail wasn't even in the origenal ps3 box. It was in the same kind of box I shipped my ps3 to sony in. Explain that Mr.Sony lol

I don't know. Do you guys think I should give up on sony, or just my beloved 60gb? Should I ask for an upgraded, more reliable brand new 80gb? Or should I go out and buy a brand new 40? I won't have to pay $150 to ship this P.O.S back again, so should I just go for another 60gb?

Thank you, Sony, for sending me another defective 60gig. Would you mind sending me a brand new system rather than a refurbished one next time?
